"Where there are experts there will be no lack of learners."
“The expert in anything was once a beginner.”
"Westminster Kingsway College (King’s Cross Centre) hosted the London Africa Cultural Event (LACE) for the second year running, on 17th October 2014. LACE provided our students with opportunities to photograph, use their graphic design skills to create posters in advance of the event, and help backstage at the fashion show. Students involved received goodie bags, which they were most grateful for."
"It has been a pleasure working for Wari‘s LACE Fashion show, I have been given the chance to work professionally producing graphics where my input was valued at a steady pace. This experience has given me valuable insight and confidence as a freelance Graphic Designer and I am thankful for the opportunity."
"The volunteers assisting at the recent LACE event hosted at Westminster Kingsway College have fed back that they felt they received good work experience and were glad to get firsthand experience behind the scenes of setting up an event.
They said that they developed a lot of essentials skills such as working with other people and communicating effectively. They mostly enjoyed meeting the fashion designers and seeing the clothes showcase from different countries.
Our students enjoyed the fashion show, and commented on how beautiful the models were. They reported that they found the presenter to be very good and funny.
It was a good event to put on during black history month. The stalls were a good showcase for ethnic product, and they were pleased to get the free gift bags and samples.
Staff working with the event thought it was good to see the atrium full of wonderful exhibitors and the students attending on the day certainly enjoyed the atmosphere and engaging with what they had to offer.
Students benefited from working on a time- pressured event in the Theatre space, and they were very happy to have had that opportunity. They worked very hard and acted very professionally. Although the two days very challenging, we would consider hosting the event again!!"
"For this Black History month event my role has been Graphic designer producing promotional web and print material for this event.
Being part of this project I have learnt a lot, what has been invaluable to me as I grow as a designer is truly learning how to marry together ideas of the client and ideas that I have in order to produce work that is both graphically impactful and at the same time meets the brief set out."

LACE was sponsored by Westminster Kingsway College, a leading body in the London community. The college has great experience working in partnership with organisations to ensure a true collaboration at every stage. Collaborating with LACE gives the students an opportunity of a first-hand experience, to be involved in a project seeped in culture and roots. The concept will benefit the students across an array of disciplines, event management and marketing, while delivering an intellectual challenge.
Westminster Kingsway College offered highly motivated second year individuals to help drive the marketing campaign alongside LACE as part of their curriculum. The students involved are excited to be working on a live brief and building relationships within the industry is a crucial part of a student’s experience. The students would gain the necessary experience in the fields of their chosen subjects. The collaboration scope also extends to students working closely with designers and exhibitors at the LACE event in 2013 and 2014 to furthering their skill set.
"Just a few words of congratulation for organising and executing the LACE 2014 event at Westminster College. We had a good day with positive feedback from our customers. Looking forward to working alongside you at future events, stay well and keep the dream alive! ”
